Rodney McNew
Rodney McNew of Quinton founded Windmill Homes. He was raised by his grandfather, Silas McNew. Silas was a tinker, as they say. In the early 70s, Rodney and his grandfather made their first windmill together.
Rodney recalls their first windmill, a farmer churning butter, and then a squirrel in a rowboat. “As the windmill turned, these characters came to life, kind of like watching an aquarium, I suppose.” Rodney also remembers great conversations and time on the porch.
That’s how Windmill Homes got its name. In honor of a wonderful man, Silas McNew.
Rodney went on to build his first home in New Kent in 1986. He loved the process so much that he incorporated Windmill Homes in 1992. Twenty-six years later he is still doing business in New Kent County, Virginia, now under the name “Windmill Homes.”
